About the collection

This is a collection of cruise ship memorabilia collected by John N. Park, Jr., mostly dating from 1965 to 1975. Material related to the United States Line includes: photos and negatives; brochures; newsletters; deck plans; a brief history of the line; an inspection guide describing the amenities; and press releases. Photos show ships during construction, on trial runs, launchings, and interior views. Ships documented include the United States, the America, the Manhattan, and the Washington. Other lines represented in the collection include: Italia Line, Norweigian American Line, Greek Line, P & O Line, Chandris Line, Holland-America Line, French Line, and many others. Materials include brochures, postcards, deck plans, souvenir booklets, menus, baggage tags, photographs and snapshots, and sailing schedules. The collection also includes correspondence related to Park’s collecting of cruise-ship materials; a diary of four days of a voyage in 1929, possibly kept by Laird Park (as a child); and a printed volume, “A Prayer Book for Soldiers and Sailors,” 1942.
