About the Morris family

Elliston P. Morris (1831-1914) was a Philadelphia merchant and shipper. RMS Mauretania (also known as “Maury”), sister ship of the Lusitania, was an ocean liner built by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson at Wallsend, Tyne and Wear, and was launched in 1906. At the time, she was the largest and fastest ship in the world.

About the collection

This is a collection of photograph albums documenting trips taken by the Morris family. Albums include: photograph album/scrapbook and scrapbook recording a 1925 trip to England on board RMS Mauretania of the Cunard line; album recording a 1934 trip to France, with an illustration of SS Bremen on the cover; and an album of a 1938 trip aboard the SS Vandyck from Miami, Florida, to Haiti, Jamaica, and Havana. The collection also includes a journal kept by Janet Morris during the 1925 trip, and one folder of material related to the Atlantic Deeper Waterways Association.
