USS Wabash was a steam screw frigate laid down in May of 1854 by the Philadelphia Navy Yard and launched in October of 1855. She was commissioned in August 1856, with Captain Frederick K. Engle in command.

About the collection

Manuscript volume on seamanship, possibly a station bill book for USS Wabash, dated 1856. The volume includes instructions for bending sails, mooring and unmooring, reefing and hoisting, bringing the ship to anchor, manning fire stations, what to do when there is a man overboard, and port routines. The volume also includes blank sheets on which to list the officers and crew of the ship and lists of crew stations.
