About Howard R. Kemble

Howard R. Kemble was a Trustee of the Camden County Historical Society. He was the author, along with Harry B. Weiss, of They Took to the Waters: The Forgotten Mineral Spring Resorts of New Jersey and Nearby Pennsylvania and Delaware.

About the collection

Howard R. Kemble research file on New Jersey maritime history from the late 17th century to the 19th century. Cards are arranged by subject and alphabetically by person and vessel. Cards include brief entries, citations, and sometimes a copy of a pertinent clipping. Among the many subjects are: oystermen, physicians, sailmakers, boat lines, ferries, landings, taverns with nautical names, and maritime disasters. The collection also includes some business cards from the 20th century.
