About the collection

The collection consists of plans and specifications by O.C. Chapman for ships being built, repaired, or converted. The bulk of the collection is arranged by project, with general arrangement plans, system plans, equipment plans, specifications, notes and calculations, product brochures, and correspondence with commissioning companies, potential financiers, equipment and parts suppliers, other shipbuilding companies, and naval engineers. There are occasionally photographs of ships or parts with these records. The collection also includes miscellaneous product brochures; brochures from shipyards and contracting companies; correspondence with the American Bureau of Shipping regarding the approval of tug boat plans; and correspondence related to insurance and marine safety issues.
