About Henry Hoyt Moore

Henry Hoyt Moore was an historian and photographer. Joshua Slocum was a Canadian seaman and adventurer and the first person to sail single-handedly around the world (1895-1898). Slocum disappeared in 1909 while sailing his boat, the Spray.

About the collection

Collection consists of two letters written to Henry Hoyt Moore regarding his inquiries about the fate of Capt. Joshua Slocum: one from Galen W. Hill, librarian at the Millicent Library in Fairhaven, Mass., dated October 31, 1922, and one from Capt. Slocum’s widow, Mrs. Henrietta M. Mayhew dated December 11, 1922, in which she speculates on the reason for her husband’s disappearance.
