The Independent Barge Club, formed in the mid-1850s, was one of the founding clubs of the Schuylkill Navy. The club was dissolved during the Civil War.

About the collection

Minutes of meetings of the Independent Barge Club, kept by secretary William G. Steel, recording the club’s rules and regulations, and plans for maintenance of its boat, the Whisper. Also one retained copy of a letter to a member and a meeting invitation.
