About the collection

This collection consists of a letterbook of Pancoast & Bros., 1857-1859. Letters are addressed to suppliers and customers in major cities (including New York, Boston, and Cincinnati) concerning various provisions (fish, beef, buckwheat, lard, and so on), their prices, availability as well as accounts of sales. Leaves of trees and shrubs are interleaved in the book. The volume includes two newspaper clippings from 1859, one concerning hog sales and prices between 1833 and 1859 and one listing Deputy Inspectors of Fish in Massachusetts ports. The collection also includes an 1858 circular advertisement and business card for Pancoast & Bros. Commission Merchants. Business card lists D. Pancoast and K. Pancoast. Letters are signed S.L. Pancoast.
